A New Year, A New Day

A new day brought in a New Year with the sun glistening on fresh snow.

sun, sunrise, snow, fence

The crispness of the morning with the clean white snow sparkling in the sun is our cue to remember that each day is an opportunity to start fresh.

Allow the light you were created with to shine for all the world to see.

Happy New Year!

Dancing with Coyotes

“Coyotes in the north field!”

That’s all it took to get me in fast motion to view through a north facing window in the game room.

I watched them romp in the snow for a moment before they headed east, at which point I went upstairs to get a better view.

All together, there were six of them.

You can see two of them stopped to fight/play. I got another picture where it appeared the one on bottom had its tail tucked around the tummy….I believe it is clear who the Alpha animal is here!

Here’s one as he was exiting that parcel of land through a barbed wire fence.

They all headed east and south, out of sight, but I felt compelled to put on my boots and go outside anyway.

As I was about to go out into the north field, I heard barking. I looked over and the coyotes were back…. defending their territory with a couple of hounds, who anxiously followed the trail the six came on from the west.

This one yip-howled letting the hounds know that they were welcome to leave.

Then he stood there watching, waiting until the hounds were out of sight.

Then he saw me.

He just sat there watching me. I suddenly felt a different kind of surge and chill not related to the below-freezing temperature. I felt as if he were sending me energy…a good kind of energy.

I never did feel in danger, despite there was nothing but a field and an easily breached fence between me and him. I only felt peace and oneness.

Once the 6-pack had left, I decided to see what kind of tracks they left in the field. Some prints slid into a standstill, some places looked like they danced, others you could see where one had been rolling around on his back.

As I walked back to the house, I had a silly thought…. I put my own track next to one of theirs, with the thought, Dancing with Coyotes!

I said I felt an energy from the one coyote. On researching, I found that one part of Native American lore  that included the Coyote was said to bring natural shifts in balance.

Perhaps it’s only for me.

But perhaps it has also to do with the whole concept of the shift in consciousness (a balance of love) that many feel is about to take place.

The coyote is also known in Native American myths as a “trickster”… maybe the many who believe a cataclysmic end to the world is fast approaching have simply been tricked.

Whatever the case, I felt a strong connection with that animal this morning. It was quite incredible.

What is it you connect with? What speaks to you?

Snowy Waterpot

We woke to about 1 1/2 inches of snow this morning. I looked out and saw the sun was illuminating  the fountain in the pond by the back patio here in the desert southwest.

It just seemed so peaceful.

Thee water continues to flow without complaining despite the cold and snow.

Seems a good lesson for us….to BE who we are and LIVE, no matter what the situation, in PEACE.

Snow Show

Today, I have the urge to wander around shooting the freshly painted landscape. I watch the clouds and hear the symphony of birds amid the rush of wind among the trees. I really try to listen to my intuition, so when I get bored with where I am and sense a call to wander toward the east, I heed the call.

While admiring the gleaming desert floor, I see  a stirring in the snow out in the field and look for an animal. What I see instead is a rapidly forming snow devil!

Desert dwellers are accustomed to seeing dust devils. We see them often, mostly in the summer. But to witness the same phenomenon in a snow scape and watch it dance and skate across the desert floor….WOW! It is a snow show just for me…well…and whoever else happens to see it!

The second picture has a small snowbow (yes, similar to a rainbow) on the lower left (see below). It reminds me that when we look closely at what appears turmoil, we often see a promise that no matter what things look like right now….everything is really just fine.

Shelter in the Storm

(View from the front)

A Thrasher was totally content up in a pine tree during a recent storm. He happily accepts the snow because he knows it will be a source of sustenance both now (with moisture to drink) and in the future (as that moisture helps things grow that he can eat later).

How much happier would we be if we accepted the circumstances we found ourselves in, knowing that the Universe conspires only on our behalf, no matter how difficult that may be to see?

(He turned around so I could see his back.)

Snow Angel

After the last big snow storm of December 2011, Deborah took a leisurely turn at making snow bricks (under her!) for the snow fort.

Deborah’s smile never fails to bring light to those around her.

Frosted Yucca

The field was dancing with sparkles of light from the sun reflecting off the frost. This yucca seemed to peacefully say, “I Am…and even through a covering of frost, I’m spreading warmth and light to all creation around me.”

Available for purchase as prints, canvas, acrylics, and note cards.

Nirnasha

Nirnasha is the squirrel who has built a den in the back yard. He is quite the example of Being…he’s missing a front leg and paw, yet he’s content to do what he needs to to build his home and live. Whether he was born that way, or survived an attack of sorts, he’s beat the odds that many would not survive….his name means “deathless”.

What if human beings followed his example in their attitudes?!
